Presenting a fairly simple column prop for fantasy renders. Use it to chain up those pesky dragons. Or fair maidens waiting to be eaten by pesky dragons! It might even hold up the ceiling in a troll cave, but I make no guarantees. :=)

I took a photo in a far-away place that inspired me to create this prop. The place is called Geghard, or more formally Geghardavank, which means Monastery of the Spear. Some of the rooms are carved out of solid rock reaching back into the depths of the mountain. It's quite cool inside those rooms, regardless of the outside temperature. The texture on the column is from a photograph I took in Geghard. It is a very dark and ancient place. In the room with the column, the only light comes in through a hole in the ceiling, which is vaulted, in a style called a Gavit. The monastery dates to the 13th century. Armenian tradition says this place housed the Spear of Destiny. It was brought there by the Apostle Thaddeus of Edessa, according to legend. Enjoy!

Usage notes:

In Daz Studio, I used bump and displacement to achieve a rough surface. I cannot duplicate this in the Poser MAT files, as I do not have Poser. Poser users can adjust the surfaces in the material room. It will load with all textures applied. There are .dsa MAT files in the Pose/Mediasponge folder. These were created in DS 3.

When you load the prop, it will load complete with the column, a ring shape at the top and bottom, and a wide base I called a "gumdrop" shape, with another at the top. See sample render.

Thanks to mCasual Jacques for his mCJLathe script I used to create the gumdrop. I could have used it to do the whole prop in one piece, but I preferred to have pieces that could be turned on and off for effect. « Less
