New Kuka machining cell to be debuted at Automatica 2012 by Robotmaster

April 13, 2012 - Robotmaster and Kuka Robotics GmbH are proud to present the newly designed Kuka machining cell using the new KRC4 controller and Kuka.CNC machining technology  at Automatica 2012 in Munich (5/22 - 5/25/2012). The cell will demonstrate live machining of an industrial manufacturing part using a Kuka Quantec KR300 robot and a rotary table.

Visitors to Automatica will have an opportunity to see "first hand" the machined results that can be achieved with the latest CNC control technology offered by Kuka Robotics and programmed with Robotmaster.

The market for machining parts with robots is steadily growing as more people are realizing that good machined tolerances can be achieved using robots. Instead of using a more expensive 5-axis CNC machine to perform roughing and semi-finish operations, clients are undertaking these processes using cost efficient robotic solutions! For ultimate accuracy, the final finish for the part may be done on a CNC machine to achieve the desired part tolerance! Model makers/prototype makers can manufacture their entire part using a robot!

Major robot manufacturers such as Kuka Robotics and Staubli have seized this opportunity to provide robots with the rigidity required to machine harder material as well as enhanced control technology with motion planners that are CNC control based. These CNC controls offer significant power for processing large number of point data required for high speed machining, several hundred points look ahead to allow for smooth acceleration and deceleration - some of the critical requirements to achieve a high machined tolerance!

Our most recent measurements done on parts machined using the Kuka CNC control technology had 95% of points within the programmed tolerance! That is significant compared to a few years ago when these results were considered impossible from machining with a robot!

Robotmaster offers an easy to use and integrated software solution for: CAD model import/creation, path generation, advanced tools to resolve the inverse kinematics of the robot (singularities, joint limits, over travel, reach, etc.) followed by simulation and robot code generation. A 6-axis robot can easily be programmed using Robotmaster with support for external axes (up to 3 rails/tracks and 2 rotary axes) - all in simultaneous motion if desired!

In addition to machining, Robotmaster easily supports path following robot applications such as trimming, welding, sanding, de-burring, painting/spraying, laser, plasma and water-jet cutting, grinding and part to tool applications.
