Poser Background Spam new Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

Next one.

Somebody declares nice but simple JPG files to background images. Most visitors watching this items aren't aware that it is only an image. Please move this images over to art.

Until we get the 2D area, backgrounds in a zip should go to Textures>Backgrounds...as there really is no other place to put them...

btw, Any word on how soon the 2D upload area is going to be activated?

Hm. Not shure if a plain jpeg should be seen as a background for a 3D app. It's a photo or a 3D created image that should be uploaded to the image gallery as usual.

We're trying to get people who upload backgrounds to bundle them into a zip. ZIP files don't go in the 2D Art or Photo section.

Fine. But for what reason is a collection of JPG files special for Poser?

If such an image is made to be a background, it is a *material* for a (poser|cinema4D|bryce|vue|Max|Maya) background. No reason to say: "Poser background only".

Well my guess would be that in the higher end applications, you don't see people using backgrounds as often as you do in Poser & DAZ Studio. I for example use Bryce, Vue & Cararra to CREATE backgrounds for my Poser images, not the other way around.  For that reason alone, I don't tend to download backgrounds to begin with, but some newbies need the backgrounds if they don't have the software to make their own like I do.

Aha. I see your point.

Poser has a "Background Prop". Made to insert photos for example. Well documented in the manual how to handle it. With your own photographs, for example. This is the reason why a simple image is a Poser item? Because it is usable as background? If you see it this way, any 2D image is also a texture for Poser. So better the same image(s) should be uploaded to all other 3D categories, because this image is maybe usefull for one or two Max/Maya users as background, too.

Allowing people to upload "simple" images to the Poser categorie is an invitation to spam this category. Because at the end, some other people may feel the need to upload anything that comes out of their digital camera to the Poser categorie. Several hundered or more per day. Something you really like to see?

Actually what shareCG does is not my business. Nor is shareCG a hobby of mine. I just said what I think about it. That's all.

I use shareCG as long as it is usefull for my purposes. I have several choices to deposit my packages. We'll see :)

Poser doesn't even need the background prop unless you're going for realistic shadows on the background. It also allows the import directly to the studio background which is grey by default. Shadows on that background can even be fudged to a point by using shadow catching on the ground prop and other props in the scene.

What will make or break these spam backgrounds is whether or not people actually bother with downloading them. I've been looking at the view counts of some of these items and frankly I don't see the threat compared to the views on the good 3D items. At least one of my items alone has 100 times the views of many of these background props.

Oh, I don't realize that "view" is a synonyme for "download".

As far as I can tell, mutch users are courious about what a click on this nice icons may discover. They surly don't expect a simple picture masqueraded as poser item.

Others are simply curious about what is possible to cheat this site. This is also counted as a "view" (download?).

And once again: These pictures are nice. But in the *wrong* category. That's all.

But as I said allready: Not really my business.

I completely agree with you, adp.

Poser section is becoming full of simple images, which "technically" are absolutely not Poser contents... Urgently need of an upload moderator here at Sharecg, imho (and starting to count downloads, instead of views, as i proposed a long time ago...)

Business model of this site is to generate views, not downloads.

So the sites owners aren't mutch interested in *why* someone looks on a page. This is fine - for the shorthand.

"No, I don't use this site anymore - there is so mutch useless content that I have no chance to find what I'm looking for. Buying is faster and often - just cheaper than 'free'".

At least for the long run quality becomes important. Especially if this business model is successfull. Because others, maybe with a better knowledge about marketing, will try the same model.

There are allready a lot of sites with free content. Not sure if any other site shares earnings with the content creators. But this is only a small step for most of them.

English is not my first language, so i hope i correctly understand what you are meaning.
I know, the site earning is based on views, but who wants to visit a site where there are some good (and in certain cases very good, like yours...) contents lost in a sea of bad ones?
Even advertisers, i guess, are not very attracted by this situation, and infact user earnings are every month lower and lower.
Paying for downloads, imho, could eliminate the spammers (no downloads -> no earning -> no motivation to post low quality contents) and increase the site appealing.
For art and video contents, which cannot be downloaded, should be sufficient to show a resized preview (for images) or a single frame (for videos), and give the user the possibility to view the entire content, which should count as a download.

The business model is very fine and innovative. Views *are* the point.

There are more effective methods to prevent spam and to low quality popping up into the "pool position".

Based on the business model ShareCG is highly interest in volumn. An important figure (number of pages) grows to slow if mass upload isn't allowed or constrained.

The challenge is to find a small way in-between.

 But - we'll see. ;)

Re: Poser Background Spam new [re: adp__]Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

If it is a regular photo or a background some one made themselves then no it doesn't belong in Poser, however if someone makes a background for cyclorama then it should go into poser basing this on cyclorama being for poser or Daz Studio or any that would be for say Daz Environmirents or RNDA Infinity Cove those are basically for poser...Laughing am I right or wrong ??

I don't know if this is the place to ask this question maybe someone can direct me to correct forum, but is there a limit on how many items you can upload per 24 hours ?? I see tons for Clother  the first day I believe was close to 5 pages , I have noticed less each day being uploaded but that puts what I posted the same day way out of eye sight.  Guess that's the breaks.Surprised but I am surprised if there is not a logical limit. Something to think about.

Actually a full images can be used in Amphi  any photograph can be used no different if its 2dart background or if its for cyclorama of Infinity cove. Some of us use these a lot and any time anyone can get these darn rights I am.

My biggest problem at the moment is the tons of zew3d's clothierM items being uploaded at one time 3 to 5 pages to me it is an abuse or what some  would call spamming.

Course I don't even know why I bother to post anything  I have in 2 or 3 other forums no one has answered just started another thread now thats just rude.

Isn't that what forums are for to ask questions and get answers.Foot in mouth Okay since I seem to be  sticking my foot in my mouth I won't post any questions here again or reply to any answers, no need for me too since I only upload tops once a month if that. I am not here to make money I am here only to share with no ties.
