I need to model this tube, can anyone suggest a good starting point?

Personally, I would start with a cylinder primitive and work from there.  You could also start with a cube, stretch it out and perform some tessalation and smoothing to make it into a tube.

An end view would be nice to determine if it is an actual cylinder shape or rounded off rectangle. That would help determine the best primative to start from in low poly to start adding details.
