I have been using 3D Scan studio from Next Engine and finding it to be very powerful. It is 3D software used for 3D laser scanning and really has a number of powerful features. When scanning physical objects in sections it gives you the ability to stich together those scans with ease and then trim, fuse and polish the scans together. Detail\poly reduction can then be applied as well as resurfacing the mesh for various output...such as nurbs curves or OBJ, 3DS etc.
