LAS VEGAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — January 5, 2016 — CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW – Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the Canvio® Premium, a series of portable hard disk drives (HDDs) featuring both USB Type-A and USB Type-C™ compatibility, as well as the TransMemory® EX Dual, a dual port Type-A and Type-C flash drive engineered for quick and easy transfers between devices.
“USB Type-C is slated to become the new standard in universal connectors,” said Maciek Brzeski, Vice President Branded Storage Products, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division, “Although widespread adoption is still in its infancy, we’ve designed the Canvio Premium and TransMemory EX Dual devices to be compatible with this technology so that our users can bridge the gap between their existing hardware and the latest high-end machines. These devices will maximize portability and convenience for years to come.”
Canvio Premium portable drives provide a convenient and user-friendly storage option that is compatible with conventional USB 3.0 devices and USB Type-C devices via an included onboard adapter. This allows the drives to integrate seamlessly into users’ existing ecosystem of devices as the Canvio Premium HDDs can be used with a wide array of PCs – from ten-year-old machines to the latest convertible laptop – without the need to purchase separate hardware.
The TransMemory EX Dual features a dual interface with both USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports. With read and write speeds up to 95MB/s and 80MB/s1, the EX Dual allows users to quickly and efficiently transfer photos, videos and documents to and from their existing devices.
Compatible with both Mac and PC devices, Canvio Premium HDDs feature a comprehensive lineup of software catering to personal and business users alike. The HDD Password Tool allows users to prevent unauthorized access to their files, while NTI Back Now EZ2 software provides a simple yet reliable back-up and recovery solution to prevent the loss of crucial data. Users can also benefit from Pogoplug® PC, which provides 10GB of cloud storage that can be accessed remotely from smartphones, tablets or other mobile devices.
Inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, Toshiba’s Canvio Premium and TransMemory EX Dual both embody a simple, yet sophisticated design in a timeless metallic structure. Constructed of aluminum materials with diamond cut edges, the Canvio Premium line excels in heat dissipation while maintaining the high durability iconic to Toshiba products.
