Important Considerations Before Uploading Your 3D Model and Other Guidelines

Note: Our version 1.xx 3D Viewer only processes .obj 3d model files. Future releases will process all popular file types.

Please follow the below guidelines when packaging your models to insure that they display properly.
1. You can submit a stand-alone .obj file, or bundle your .obj file plus materials and textures in either a .zip or .rar file.
2. If your .obj file refers to a material file (*.mtl) using “mtllib mtl_file_name.mtl” the .mtl file must be in the same directory as the .obj file, or in a subdirectory using “mtlib sub-dir/mtl_file_name.mtl.”
3. If your .mtl file refers to a texture file using “map_Kd image_name.ext” the texture file must be in the same directory as the .mtl file or in a subdirectory
using “map_Kd sub-dir/image_name.ext.” Currently the supported files extensions types are *.gif, *.jpg, *.jpeg or *.png (no support for *.bmp)

Important Considerations
Please Package your 3D model correctly so it will upload and display properly. Also, layout your 3D object so that it displays nicely oriented for display in the 3D viewer.
If you refer to a material file from within your .obj file and there is no material file in the package, or if the material file's name is not the same as specified in your .obj file, or if the path to your material file is incorrect we may not process your upload or display your upload as a controllable 3D object. Similarly, if you refer to a texture file from within your material file and the texture file is missing, doesn't match the name assigned in the texture file, or if the path you specify is incorrect we may not process your file.

Our software can sometimes determine what the correct paths are and make adjustments. It can also attempt to fix discrepancies in naming case differences (our processor is case sensitive), and will also attempt to remove all spaces from your file names. But, although our software can attempt these fixes, and this often times works, please be as accurate as possible when specifying paths and naming files so the referring file has the same name and case as the file being referred to and, please do not leave blank spaces in your file names.

Email Notifications
If the conversion is unsuccessful we will send you an email alert asking that you repackage your model. We also send you an email if your upload has been successfully converted.

Turning Off Your 3D Viewer
You can turn off your 3D View display by navigating to your Account and then going to 'my uploads' tab. You then 'Edit' the model you've uploaded and uncheck “Display with 3D Viewer?”
