For nice reflections, make sure you have something to reflect in your scene. Think of a mirror: If there is no wall or something behind you, the mirror will show you a deep, endless black nothing. In the picture above I copied the wall you see 3 times to build a room around the candelabra. In combination with the floor (a shader for the ground prop) and a ceiling (just a white block) their is enough in the scene to render photorealistic reflections. Don't forget to switch raytrace on and to use raytraced lights.
